Great value from Jim Clendenen, one of the most highly respected winemakers in California who sadly passed away in May 2021. This barrel fermented, full bodied Chardonnay has mouth filling citrus fruit and a palate cleansing, bright finish. It will become richer and more complex with age. This wine is sourced from three great vineyard sites in Santa Barbara County—Bien Nacido, Rancho Vinedo and Los Alamos. The fruit is 100% whole-cluster pressed then chilled and settled overnight. The juice is barrel fermented in French oak barrels, predominately from Francois Freres (about 10% new). It then undergoes a secondary complete malolactic fermentation and is aged sur-lie for 8 months.
Pair with: crab legs, Chicken Picatta, roasted pork loin
"An excellent effort from the Central Coast, the ... Au Bon Climat Chardonnay exhibits beautiful ripe citrus aromas and flavors, and a touch of barrel. Owner/winemaker Jim Clendenen has been a consistent and recognized champion of wines from Santa Barbara County."
